Great Moments in Diplomacy Mar 12

by Paul

For your entertainment while I am trapped in O’Hare…

According to the BBC, Israel has recalled its ambassador to El Salvador “after he was found drunk and naked apart from bondage gear.”

Here’s my favorite part:

Apparently the man was “able to identify himself to police only after a rubber ball had been removed from his mouth.”

Foreign Mnistry spokeswoman Zehavit Ben-Hillel described his behavior as “unbecoming of a diplomat.” Haaretz has more.

Depends on what kind of diplomacy you’re engaged in…

Update:

I had to add this tidbit from an AFP article, via Rawstory.

Acccording to a FM source, the ambassador’s public appearance marked “the first time” that he “had ever distingished himself in any way.”

How about “one-track” instead of “track-one”??

Since he’s Israeli, it is his bondage “gear” rather than his bondage “kit” (pr whatever). “Gear” sounds kinky, in a militaristic middle eastern way…

The Guardian has an article detailing plenty of other “undiplomatic” incidents involving Israeli ambassadors, including Naftali Tamir, the Australian ambassador who said that Israel and Australia were sisters states because they are located in Asia, but aren’t “yellow and slanty-eyed.”
